Legality and RODO - what to check when ordering
Do not order drone photos from someone without the paperwork - if something goes wrong, you as the client can be on the hook too. Here is the minimum an operator must meet in 2026.
- Operator OC (drone third-party liability insurance) - mandatory since 13 November 2025 for drones with a take-off mass of 250 g to 20 kg, minimum cover of 50 000 SDR (about 270 000 zł). No policy means a fine up to 4000 zł. Ask for the policy number
- Operator registration on drony.gov.pl - the system run by ULC (the Polish Civil Aviation Authority). A drone with a camera is registered even if it weighs under 250 g, for example a DJI Mini 4 Pro
- Qualifications: the open category uses subcategories A1/A3 (online course, 40-question test, 75% pass threshold), with A2 added for closer flights
- RODO and privacy: the flight is over your property, but the operator avoids capturing other people's land, persons, and plates without consent - that is a data-protection matter, not the flight itself
